Dragonfly Tiffany Floor Lamps
Add archetypical dragonfly Tiffany floor lamps to your home decor.
The dragonfly is one of the most popular design
elements in stained glass lamps, lighting fixtures, and Tiffany window panels.
In 1900, Tiffany introduced the earliest model of the popular original Dragonfly lamp at the Paris Exposition. Large blue-bodied dragonflies with overlapping purple-striated-blue wings were imposed on a blue-green background mottled with yellow to suggest rippling water.
The wings were covered with metal filigree to simulate the dragonfly’s veins, and its red eyes, which touched the lamp shade’s lower edge, or apron, were made of glistening glass jewels. Clara Driscoll, head designer for the Tiffany Studio, designed many of these shades.
By his vision and energy, Louis C. Tiffany succeeded in blending classical motifs, such as the dragonfly, with bold new techniques in glassmaking to create a distinctive American art form. The high demand for Tiffany lamps among today's collectors attests to the lasting value of his work.
Tiffany floor lamps can be generally grouped to form the following categories, each specifying different characteristics: irregular upper and lower borders lamps, favrile (handcrafted) lamps, geometric lamps, transition to flowers lamps, flowered cone lamps, flowered globe lamps, and irregular lower border lamps. Dragonfly and Other Tiffany Floor Lamp
Patterns
Dragonfly
designs became
like a trademark. This dragonfly motif is used in stained glass Tiffany style floor lamps, Tiffany lamps, and stained glass
window art is joined by his three other famous motifs,
wisteria, peacock feather, and cherry blossom. Today, you can purchase these motifs in stained glass
floor lamps, Meyda Tiffany Peacock flush mount ceiling lights, chandeliers, and stained
glass panels.
Geometric patterns may seem elementary; however, the choice of color or the
painstaking application of solder found in the design makes the lamp a
sophisticated work of art. Tiffany style floor lamp designers use
decorative patterns through the repetition of motifs, allowing them to
create unique and captivating Tiffany style floor lamps.
